Lets look at this issue from a technical point of view.
As a thirty year small Engine Mechanic, the Galling problem with this Engine is most likley caused from one or two things. !) The engine camshaft is too soft. 2) People who have this problem are nt allowing their Engine to warm up properly.

Do you remember back in the early 1980s when Chevrolet had the same problem with the S/Block 305 V8 Cam?? They determined that the Cam Grinding Company that GM contracted to failed to meet the Rockwell Hardness Requirements for the Valve Lifters that GM was using. With a Soft Cam Lobe on a much harder Valve Lifter,Galling and uneven wear was the result..
I Speculate that this could be the same problem with the Savage Engine because we never hear about Valve stem end problems on this Engine.(SUZUKI ENGINEERS ARE YOU LISTENING?)

2)Proper Engine warm-up!
How many Motorcycle Owners start the engine, rev it up a few times, and blast off like a Bat out of H__L? Want to Ruin a perfectly good Engine? keep it up! The very thing we Love about the Savage is the 650cc single between our legs.Suzuki gets the c/c size from the Stroke Length and not the Bore size. It takes a long time for the oil to reach to the top of the Head due to the length of the stroke.Without proper warm-up times how long will
will it take to ruin a Cam? (A "SOFT"CAM?)
Everytime I start Motodemon I do not touch the Throttle until the Cyl Jug is too hot to touch. This assures Me that I ain't loading the Engine until the oil has had time to get to the top of the Cyl.Yes,I really do this although it sounds Anal,it makes me feel better about the Galling problem associated with this Bike!

Oil has three jobs; Lubricate, clean, cool.Any oil will lubricate, but it"s the Chemestry that makes the difference.Oil Manufactures install Viscosity Improvers,Zinc, and a host of other chemicals that We can't pronounce. The quality of the oil is rated on;Viscosity Index,Flash Point,Pour Point,% Sulfated Ash,%zinc.
Without getting too technical,We want a oil that offers the highest Viscosity,Flash point, and zinc content that we can find, and one that has no ash content at all.
A very good Article was written about Motor Oil by Mr.Ed Hacket (Petroleum Engineer) edh@maxey.unr.edu
I will ty to find this website a post it for everyone.
